About The Talk + Speakers

Lightning Talks from the Library of Congress

Mary Galvin is a PhD student at CWRU with focuses in gender performance in rock music, identity and community building in DIY subcultures, and sacred French Baroque vocal music. While she was a fellow at the Library of Congress, she explored Peggy Seeger’s albums from the 1990s and the material culture and gender dynamics of the DC Hardcore scene.

Ellen Sauer Tanyeri is a PhD candidate at CWRU and the archives and editorial assistant of The Cleveland Orchestra. Her research interests include 19th century sheet music culture, birds, and the music of the French Revolution. She explored all 3 of these passions during her time at the library of congress.

Simi Olabode is a PhD student at CWRU and the Graduate Fellow for the Baker-Nord Institute. Her research explores the intersections of Black popular music, and queer and diasporic identity/community building. During her time at the Library of Congress, she explored how go-go performance has shaped and been shaped by D.C.'s geography, particularly in regards to transportation and how these spatial politics reflect broader patterns of radicalized urban restructuring.
