Student Employment Opportunities

Overview

The Department of Nutrition offers a variety of paid opportunities for students at CWRU.  While we have occasional short-term opportunities, most are hourly positions through the Student Employment Office.  Click on the links below to view the full descriptions for each posting and learn how to apply.

Examples of Opportunities

Teaching Kitchen Assistant

Assists faculty and staff with all aspects of making sure classes held in our teaching kitchen run smoothly, including setup, cleanup, and in-class support.  Must be available during class meeting times, as well as an hour before and after.  Some shifts may also include deep cleaning, organization, and inventory.  Teaching kitchen assistants are required to complete a paid, in-person kitchen training session and unpaid university TA training before beginning work.

Classroom Teaching Assistant (TA)

Assists a designated faculty member with grading, Canvas maintenance, in-class activities, and/or similar duties as needed.  Classroom TAs are also asked to spend up to 5 hours per week working on accessibility remediation for existing Canvas content.  Unpaid university TA training is required before beginning work.  Paid accessibility remediation training is provided for TAs who also work on accessibility remediation.

Wet Lab Research Assistant

Assists with bench science in a faculty member's research lab.  Duties vary depending upon the faculty member's field of research and current project(s).  Training modules facilitated by Environmental Health and Safety, as determined by the faculty supervisor, are required before beginning work.

Data Science Research Assistant

Assists with analysis of research data.  Duties vary depending upon the faculty member's field of research and current project(s).  Training modules facilitated by Environmental Health and Safety and/or CITI Responsible Conduct of Research training, as determined by the faculty supervisor, may be required before beginning work.

Community Nutrition Research Assistant

Assists with facilitating community-based research projects, such as .  Typically involves the application of public health nutrition principles to design, implement, or evaluate community-based food and nutrition interventions.  Duties vary depending upon the faculty member's field of research and current project(s), but may include work at offsite locations within the Cleveland metropolitan area.  CITI Responsible Conduct of Research training, as well as any other training modules determined by the faculty supervisor, may be required before beginning work.

Current Openings

The Prescott lab is seeking dependable, caring students to join our team as part-time childcare providers during our hands-on cooking classes for adults. This position requires 2.5 hours per week on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. It is ideal for students who enjoy working with children in a fun, supportive environment while parents participate in cooking classes.

Responsibilities include supervising and engaging children in age-appropriate activities in a room near the CWRU Teaching Kitchen (on main campus) while parents attend their class in the Teaching Kitchen. The Childcare Assistant will also set up the room with any necessary supplies (e.g., art supplies, etc.) and clean up the room after the children leave.

Applicants must either have current Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) background checks or be willing to obtain them upon hire. If you’re responsible, friendly, and looking for a flexible, meaningful on-campus opportunity, we encourage you to apply!
