IEEE Spectrum: Sharona Hoffman, the Edgar A. Hahn Professor of Law and co-director of the Law-Medicine Center, warned that “wellness” wearables are often treated like medical devices in real life, shaping patient behavior and doctor visits. She said constant monitoring can fuel anxiety and complicate care, while privacy risks remain largely unaddressed outside HIPAA.
