On the passing of Pieter de Haseth

I write today to share the sad news that Pieter de Haseth, PhD, professor emeritus at ÃÛÌÒAPP School of Medicine, passed away on Dec. 22, 2025, at the age of 79.

After earning his doctorate in molecular biology, Pieter joined our faculty and rose to the rank of full professor. Over his distinguished 33-year career at CWRU, he was a dedicated educator and researcher, teaching biochemistry and leading a laboratory focused on RNA polymerase. He retired in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of scientific rigor and an unwavering commitment to our community.

Pieter will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, colleagues and former students for his remarkable sense of humor, his captivating stories and his passion for teaching and mentorship. His devotion to advancing science and nurturing the next generation of physicians and researchers touched many lives.
